Sweet Land of Liberty

Summer is almost over. It has been a wet, humid, hot summer here in Arkansas. It has cooled down some and the trees are starting to put on their autumn attire.
I love autumn. It is my favorite time of the year. There is more color and the air is crisp but not too cold and not to warm.

Just recently hurricane Harvey and Irma have devastated portions of our country. I am so sorry for what these folks are going through. I can’t imagine what it is like to lose your home and loved ones to such devastation.

I am also appalled at some of the statements made by those unaffected by this tragedy. Such callous statements come from a heart that is long seared of compassion. They are shameful words and I am sorry such people exist.

I am proud to say that the citizens of this great nation came to the aid of the victims of these storms. It will take a long time to rebuild from the destruction and will cost a lot of money. People through out the country sent money and aid. That is what this nation is about. We pull together when there is a need.

In 1973, Gordan Sinclair, a Canadian had this to say about these United States of America. Canadian Tribute to the Untied States
I have included it here.

This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people on all the earth. Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts. None of these countries is today paying even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States.

When France was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the Americans who propped it up, and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it. When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the United States that hurries in to help. This spring, 59 American communities were flattened by tornadoes. Nobody helped. The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped billions of dollars into discouraged countries. Now newspapers in those countries are writing about the decadent, warmongering Americans.

I’d like to see just one of those countries that is gloating over the erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplane. Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tri-Star, or the Douglas DC10? If so, why don’t they fly them? Why do all the International lines except Russia fly American Planes? Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or woman on the moon?

You talk about Japanese technocracy, and you get radios. You talk about German technocracy, and you get automobiles. You talk about American technocracy, and you find men on the moon, not once, but several times and safely home again. You talk about scandals, and the Americans put theirs right in the store window for everybody to look at. Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are here on our streets, and most of them, unless they are breaking Canadian laws, are getting American dollars from ma and pa at home to spend here.

When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an old caboose. Both are still broke. I can name you 5,000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when someone else raced to the Americans in trouble? I don’t think there was outside help even during the San Francisco earthquake.

Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I’m one Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them get kicked around. They will come out of this thing with their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles. I hope Canada is not one of those.”

Stand proud, America

I copied this here because I hope you, my readers, will consider what is being said.

Another article about this great country was written in 2002 after the 9/11 attack. An Ode to America

Right now in this great nation , there are those within who are trying to change us. They want a socialistic government. These are folks that do not know history. There has never been a socialistic government that was a success. The only ones that benefit from that type of government are those in power. Most are too young to remember the Soviet Union. They had to build a wall to keep people in. The citizens had no freedoms. They tried to leave to come to America so they could be free. The great and powerful Roman nation was a success as long and its citizens had freedom, but when the government became powerful and took away freedom, the nation collapsed.

Folks need to understand there is no free lunch. When we expect the government to provide free stuff, it is paid for by high taxes. If the government pays our way, the government has the right to control our lives and it will. You will be told what you can study in school. You will be arrested and jailed for speaking out against the government. You will have no rights.

I hear the word Nazi being bantered around by young folks that are too young to know what the Nazis were like. There is nothing in these United States that even remotely resembles that evil regime. They gathered up Jews and put them in concentration camps and starved them. They took Jews to gas chambers and killed them by the millions. Even German citizens were not immune to being killed for even the smallest infraction. The people lived in fear. No, this nation is nothing like the Nazis. However, if this politically correct trend continues, if this violence continues, if the laws of this country continue to be violated, we very well may become a nation like the Nazis.

We are not perfect and have never been perfect. This nation is made up of human beings. Human beings are not perfect. Each generation is a product of their time. What was acceptable in one generation, may not be acceptable in the next. That is why we should be studying the true history of this nation. We should not be trying to rewrite history to please ourselves but to learn from history. We should not be blaming those who lived in the past for what is perceived as faults today. What will the future generations think about what is happening today. I can tell you, if these United States fall, the future generations will not look kindly on this generation.

There is wisdom in history. You learn what people have done and why. You learn from other’s mistakes. That is why we have the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The founders of this nation were very wise men. They came out of oppressive nations and cultures. They wanted this nation to be one that the people who lived here would be the power, not the government. They gave a lot of thought and prayer to formulating those documents. They wanted make it impossible for the government to gain power over the people. And the government can’t gain power over the people unless the people give the power to the government. I am very afraid that this generation is going to do just that.

It doesn’t have to be that way. If folks would study the constitution and the Bill of Rights and see what rights it guarantees us and then fight for it. It is not out of date and will never be out of date. The needs of people will be the same generation after generation. Customs may change, the culture may change but the needs will not. Citizens need to be free to pursue happiness and prosperity. Every citizen needs to be free to practice the religion of his/her choice without fear of persecution. The needs of the people of these United State of America is to be free.
